The two largest recognized groups of stereotypically self-important, careless drivers could be merged into one with German efficiency.
And actually, here in the U.S. itd probably sell like hot cakes.

I wonder if the North American (and maybe Middle East) market for a full size BMW pickup is large enough for BMW to cater to. Im quite confident these will not sell at all in Europe. The market for luxury pickups is roughly zero here, and I dont think your average professional will want to be seen in something that looks like a work vehicle.

So far as I know, pickup trucks arent even a thing in europe, aside from some very very small ones. But in America... Im sure theres money.

It would be an abomination completely at odds with all the company values and history, a vehicle that has no precedent in their lineup and would be simply catering to the whim of buyers instead. A shame on the roundel and on all those glorious drivers cars that have worn it before. A cruel joke on upstanding car people like you and me.
Whats that? 2-series Gran Tourer with FWD you say? Oh. I see. In that case, why isnt this in production already? I mean all they have to do is put a roundel on a Toyota Hiace, and be done with it already. How hard could that be? I want iDrive in me pick-up truck!

brushing aside that this is a funny humorously dry comment, I must nerdily point this out:
There is historical precedent for BMW to make a mid engined, air cooled, pick up truck.

China. if you can sell a pickup in China then BMW will likely do it.
![]() 10/16/2015 at 07:37 |

Correct. Even work vehicles are very rarely pickups. Theyre usually vans. BMW does have a luxury minivan; the X5.

There are BMW diesel engines in Toyota cars, surely Toyota can slap some BMW badges on one of their trucks.
It would be interesting to see those terrorists in the Middle East (the first thing I think about when talking about Toyota trucks...) driving BMW-badged trucks.

I know very little about the Chinese market. Do the Chinese buy luxury pickup trucks?

Belgium is oppositeland.
Lots of pick-ups here, and full-size ones at that. There are a lot of imported Dodge RAM 1500s, many with an LPG conversion.
Plus, VW has the Amarok which could qualify as a full-size, luxury pick-up.
The Ford Rangers and Nissan Navarras Ive seen are all kitted out fairly well even if they arent full-sized.
Popularity in Belgium likely has to do with the laws regarding the Utilitaire, which basically exempts most of the serious road taxes from vehicles with a cargo bed, van or truck. That and the fact I live in farmland.

I dont think the U.S. Murica fuck yeah bro truck squad would own something that isnt Murican and doubt a stereotypical BMW asshat would drive a large pick up, unless it was an X4/5/6 made into a pick up at the factory in Germany and even then they arent exactly big.

An Ultimate Bro Machine?

Yes but the same thing could be said about Japan, in fact even more so than it can be said about Europe. I've at least seen Dodge Rams, and Ford Trucks and of course Toyota trucks in Europe. I have never seen a Ram or a full sized ford truck in Japan. Yet Toyota and Nissan both build successful full sized pickups.
That said I think VW would be the better choice if a European car company was to build a full sized truck. Toyota and Nissan both had successful mid sized trucks before they got into the full sized trucks. While VW has mostly produced very tiny truck like vehicles based upon their cars they do at least have some background in this area. Also their dieselgate scandal could actually help them in this area of the market. In fact I could see VW building a great full sized diesel truck.
Also like Toyota and Nissan, VW are not seen as an upscale luxury car manufacturer. They market their cars to the commoner, the kind of people that make or break a truck. Thus they already know how to make a low cost utilitarian vehicle for the masses. BMW would likely end up competing in the Luxury truck market and have a very difficult time building a truck for the masses. Even if they pulled it off the perception would still be difficult to over come. I just can't picture anyone trading in their Tundra, or Titan or Ram for a BMW truck.
VW... you can send me the check in regular payment rather than a lump sum... I know your tight for cash.

This is true, in farmland (I visit farms for a living...) these things are slightly more prevalent, even here. Last week I visited a place which had some kind of Ram from 2011 or so with a 5.7 Hemi parked on its land. It had a LPG conversion, obviously. This is only attainable for business owners (like farmers) though, using a truck like that as a commuter or toy by a private individual would be
very
pricey.

VW is way ahead of you. It produces the Amarok for a number of years now, for most markets around the world that arent the US. Its far from tiny, but I dont think it would qualify as a full size vehicle in the US.

Well, BMW does build the X5 in South Carolina so its only a matter of making a Ridgeline-esque unibody truck with two rows and a bed for it. Itd sell here in murica because people with more money than taste need some new vehicle now that the Escalade EXT has been discontinued.

Thats what a lot of Europeans forget about the States. A lot of people over hear have big yards. I have 3/4 acres and enough flower beds to warrant at least a half ton of mulch. Id much rather just roll up to the garden center and have them throw it in the back of a pickup. That way I can just park next to the bed instead of having half a ton of shit sitting in my driveway.
![]() 10/16/2015 at 09:08 |

The bed doesnt qualify as full-size, but it is a true body-on-frame truck and size-wise it is about the same as a Touareg, which is a full-size SUV.

I've been in Spain for a few months now and the only pickups I've seen are about two or three Nissan Frontier (although it's called something else here, just can't remember). I have a 2010 Ford Explorer and it's bigger than almost everything that's not a bus.

LOL. Id also like to add, when you are dead on the side of the road, its usually some beat up pickup driver like myself who would stop and help with a wrench or a tow.
